Experience

  • Victor is a partner at Arias and heads our litigation department in Costa Rica. He has a law degree from the University of Costa Rica with a Master’s degree from Tulane University, New Orleans. In Tulane, Víctor delved into and wrote about commercial arbitration, an exercise that culminated as editor of the domestic arbitration chapter of the Law for the Alternative Resolution of Conflicts and Promotion of Social Peace, by appointment of the Supreme Court of Justice. He is an arbitrator of the Center for Conciliation and Arbitration of the Chamber of Commerce (CCA), and of the International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration of the Costa Rican-North American Chamber of Commerce (CICA-AMCHAM), from which he has received appointments as expert and arbitrator in controversies of concessions, construction, distribution contracts, acquisitions and others.
  • He has acted as an expert witness in arbitration proceedings and courts in the United States on matters of damages, distribution contracts, litigation and others. He has represented multiple national and multinational companies in lawsuits before the Costa Rican courts in matters of damages, distribution contracts, contractual breaches and others. He is usually invited as a speaker at conferences and seminars on arbitration, transnational litigation, corporate, and financial matters. He is regularly recognized by magazines and publications as a leading expert in arbitration, litigation, corporate law, financial matters and others and is a corporate advisor to important national and foreign companies.
