She joined CURELL SUÑOL in 2007 and worked at the Barcelona office until 2015, when she moved to the Madrid office.

María advises on trademarks, designs, geographical indications, domain names and unfair competition matters and is specialized in the brand protection. Amongst other functions, she defines strategies for the protection of these rights, either in Spain, the European Union (acting before the European Union Intellectual Property Office – EUIPO-) or internationally. She also acts before the European Union Court of Justice in Luxembourg and the national courts (contentious-administrative, civil courts). Her practice includes counseling on out-of-court resolution of disputes, infringement issues and license and assignment agreements.

She is a Law graduate at the University of Deusto (2004) and she holds a Master’s Degree in Business Law from the University of Ramón Llull (ESADE). She has attended several courses and conferences in IP both in Spain and abroad.

She is admitted to Barcelona Bar, she is a member of the Official College of Industrial Property Agents – COAPI (Spanish Institute of Chartered Industrial Property Attorneys) and she is registered to practice before the EUIPO. She is also an active member of several international IP organisations, such as MARQUES -she is a member of GIs working group-, INTA and AIPPI. She has been a panelist at the XXXV Annual Conference of the Spanish Group of the AIPPI (2020) and has taught at ANDEMA’s training sessions (2021). She has participated, amongst others, in the preparation of the AIPPI Spanish Group’s reports, relating to Question Q239: “The basic mark requirement under the Madrid System” (2014); Question Q245: “Taking unfair advantage of trademarks: parasitism and free riding” (2015); Q275: “Standing to litigate and effect on remedies” (2020) and has been President in Question Q277 “Registrability of trademarks against public order or morality” (2021). Awarded with the recognition “IP Rising Star” in the publication “Managing Intellectual Property IP STARS” (2019/21) and other rankings such as “Leaders League” (2019/21) and “Best Lawyers” (2020-21)”.

She speaks Spanish, English and German.
