Robert C. Chambers is a Partner in Smith, Currie & Hancock, where he served as the managing partner from 2007 through 2020. Since joining Smith, Currie & Hancock in 1985, Bob has worked on numerous environmental matters, differing site condition claims, and construction disputes of all kinds, such as water and wastewater treatment plants, residential developments and buildings, commercial, industrial, and manufacturing facilities, and all types of heavy construction projects, including tunnels, dams, power facilities, airport runways, highways, bridge projects, and an automated light rail facility. He has worked on both public and private projects, including projects administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. EPA, and numerous state and local public entities. Clients have ranged from general contractors to subcontractors, suppliers and fabricators, residential, commercial, private, and public owners, and a number of professional design firms.

Bob has also worked on P3 projects, including serving as senior member on a team serving as project counsel on a $2+ billion P3 design build public works light rail project. The project counsel team was extensively involved working with client on contract modifications, contract interpretation, contract changes and claims, subcontractor issues, delay and schedule analysis, litigation, negotiation, and settlement.

Bob is a member of the Georgia and District of Columbia Bars, as well as the ABA Construction Industry Forum Committee, the ABA Section on Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law, the Environmental Committee of the ABA Section of Public Contract Law, and the Georgia Bar’s Environmental Law Section.

Bob is a co-author of Changed Conditions, Construction Briefing 12-84, and Changed Conditions II, Construction Briefing 00-09, Federal Publications, Inc., a contributor to several publications such as Environmental Construction, Special Opportunities and Special Risks Involving Hazardous Materials and Toxic Substances in Construction Subcontracting (John Wiley & Sons), and has contributed articles to construction and engineering trade magazines throughout his career. He has lectured repeatedly at Georgia Tech and other universities, and at a large number of conferences and seminars on topics of engineering liability, environmental construction, differing site conditions, and all aspects of construction disputes.

Bob attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, receiving his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1979 and a Masters in Civil Engineering (geotechnical emphasis) in 1980. Prior to law school, Bob worked for two years as an engineer with a geotechnical/materials/environmental consulting firm.  Bob received his J.D. from the University of Georgia in 1985, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
