Hill Dickinson Hong Kong wins recognition for Shipping and Dispute Resolution in first Chambers 2023 Greater China guide

Law firm Hill Dickinson’s Hong Kong office has received recognition for both its Shipping and Disputes Resolution practices in Chambers and Partners’ Greater China Region Guide 2023.

Published on 13 January 2023, the firm achieves Band 3 ranking for Shipping: Litigation (International Firms) and – in recognition of the Hong Kong office’s growing non-marine practice which provides business services advice across an increasingly diverse range of clients and sectors – for its Dispute Resolution: Litigation (International Firms) services.

Partner and office head Damien Laracy achieves individual recognition for his expertise across both practice areas, ranked in Band 2 for shipping litigation, with a further ranking for his litigation work related to dispute resolution.

Bryan O’Hare, partner and deputy head of office, who leads the firm’s commercial and insolvency disputes practice in Hong Kong, also receives individual ranking as a litigation lawyer for dispute resolution, and Jim James is given Senior Statesperson recognition for his vast experience and pivotal role in the firm’s ongoing success.

Commenting on the rankings, Tony Goldsmith, head of the Marine and Trade Group, which incorporates the firm’s international offices, said:

“We are pleased to achieve recognition in Chambers Greater China Region 2023 for both the marine and wider commercial sides of our business. Individual recognition for Damien Laracy, Bryan O’Hare and Jim James is well deserved and testament to their standing as lawyers in Hong Kong and Mainland China and their efforts to grow the firm.”

Head of Hill Dickinson Hong Kong Damien Laracy added: “We opened our Hong Kong office in 2014 with ambitions to grow in terms both of size and service offering. The office has doubled in size, increased its client base threefold and enhanced its corporate offering. It is always good to be ranked for our international trade-related work, but we are also particularly pleased that our disputes work in the corporate and insolvency sphere is growing and being recognised. Yvette Yu has also further strengthened our commercial litigation and regulatory offering.”

Chambers Greater China Region Guide 2023 is the first it has published which concentrates solely on Greater China rather than combining rankings from across the wider Asia-Pacific region. The publisher’s 2023 Asia-Pacific guide was published in December 2022.

This newest guide advances the publisher’s research to cover law firms and individuals operating in the four jurisdictions that comprise the Greater China Region. It features five exclusive sections: China (International Firms), Hong Kong Bar, China (PRC Firms), Macau and Taiwan.
