SRS Legal advised Silicolife on obtaining a Series A investment round, subscribed by the Portuguese fund Bluecrow, in the amount of 9.8 million euros. The SRS Legal team involved in this process included Paulo Bandeira (Partner) and Solange Fernandes (Associate).
SilicoLife is a startup based in Braga with research labs on the campus of the University of Minho that combines Artificial Intelligence and Biological Engineering for the sustainable production of
varied ingredients, using precision fermentation combined with microorganism engineering. This newly secured investment is intended to enhance the development of a line of ingredient
production technologies for the food supplement industry.
According to Simão Soares, CEO of SilicoLife, the investment “combines SilicoLife’s renowned R&D expertise with the financial capacity of the funds managed by BlueCrow, to scale a knowledge-based company”.
The BlueCrow fund stated that “it has followed SilicoLife’s business model and understands that the conditions are in place for the team to consolidate the experience and knowledge acquired
over several years and face the next challenges, designing and creating solutions of enormous impact.”
To respond to this new stage, SilicoLife will soon announce job opportunities in the areas of software engineering, molecular biology and strain engineering and business development, among others.
