Vinson & Elkins Recognized as a “Best Law Firm for Women” by Seramount

For the 10th time, Vinson & Elkins has earned a spot among the “Best Law Firms for Women” by Seramount (formerly Working Mother). The annual list recognizes law firms that utilize best practices in hiring, retaining, promoting and developing women lawyers.

The full list, available here, highlights law firms that offer key work-life and career advancement initiatives, and have made strides in representation of women, including in leadership ranks.

The 2022 Best Law Firms for Women application includes more than 300 questions about attorney demographics at different levels, flexibility, paid time off and parental leave policies, and development and retention of women. Questions also include ability to work from home, family-friendly benefits and mentoring and sponsorship participation.

“We have incredibly talented women at Vinson & Elkins, and we are a stronger firm when our women have equitable opportunities and can thrive,” said Hilary Preston, partner, firm Vice Chair, and co-head of Vinson & Elkins’ Women’s Initiative, along with fellow Vice Chair Jim Fox. “V&E’s Executive Committee is focused on parity in all areas, and we thank Seramount for this recognition of our efforts and our results, and for the important work it is doing to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.”

Among Vinson & Elkins’ many diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) programs is the Women’s Initiative, which provides women lawyers with the resources to advance their careers while maintaining a fulfilling life outside of work. V&E offers a variety of programs, including business development and leadership training, coaching and mentoring programs, networking events; and its Women’s Initiative has been the catalyst for numerous resources and policies that now benefit all lawyers such as gender-neutral parental leave, new parent mentoring, and flexible work arrangements.

Additionally, Vinson & Elkins’ diversity pipeline initiatives offer scholarship and fellowship opportunities for pre-law and law students in an effort to increase diversity, including women, in the legal field. The firm is also Mansfield Certified and plans to participate in the next round of the Mansfield Rule initiative which seeks to boost women and diverse lawyers in promotion opportunities and leadership roles.

“Our Best Law Firms for Women continue to improve in many critical areas,” said Subha Barry, president of Seramount. “Our firms recognize the importance of recruiting and retaining this important talent pool and have developed the family-friendly benefits to prove it.”
