Report on Dangerous Counterfeits

The OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), together with the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights of the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), have produced a new report on trade counterfeit products that pose risks to health, safety and the environment.

This report is mainly based on the analysis of data obtained at the international level on customs seizures made of counterfeit products.

While the original products have to meet certain standards, certain safety requirements and guarantee legitimate supply chains, which certifies that they are not harmful to consumers; counterfeit products, usually of inferior quality, do not comply with established regulations and, therefore, can carry serious risks to health (counterfeit food or medicine), safety (counterfeit auto parts) and the environment ( counterfeit chemicals).
