  • Simón Valverde is a partner. He is commonly identified as one of the leading intellectual property authorities in Costa Rica. He was a lawyer at the Vice Dean’s Research Office at the University of Costa Rica, being responsible for intellectual property, technology and knowledge transfer at the university. He is a founding member and former director of the Costa Rican Association of Intellectual Property Professionals (APPICR). Mr. Valverde has directed the processing of a large percentage of the patent applications filed by the firm in Costa Rica, attending more than 100 interviews with patent examiners, by far the most interviews attended by a professional of patents in Costa Rica.
  • The lawyer Valverde successfully litigated in the judicial courts (Administrative Litigation Court), together with the lawyer Luis Diego Castro, the two cases that establish the current standard of what should be included in the review of a patent application by an examiner of patents and establishes the obligatory use of the Central American Manual for the examination of patents, of discretionary use by the examiners before that decision. On behalf of APPICR he organized and coordinated, together with the Patent Office, two seminars on patent examination guidelines and pharmaceutical patent examination. He advised the Costa Rican Patent Office during the process to draft the regulations for the Costa Rican Patent Law (Regulation to the Patent Law No. 6867). He also provides advice on trademarks,
  • Since 2011 he has been a member of the faculty of the Intellectual Property course of the Master’s program in Criminal Law at the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica (member of the Laureate International Network) and is currently a member of the faculty and technical expert in curriculum changes. from the Master’s program in Intellectual Property of the Universidad Estatal a Distancia de Costa Rica (the only program of its kind in Costa Rica).
