LOCATION AND AREA –
The Czech Republic is a landlocked country situated in the heart of Europe. The country borders Poland to the northeast, Germany to the west and northwest, Austria to the south, and Slovakia to the east. With an area of 78,866 square kilometres, the Czech Republic, originally part of Czechoslovakia, is divided into 13 regions and the capital city of Prague.
1.2. POPULATION AND LANGUAGE –
The Czech Republic has approximately 10.5 million inhabitants (2022). The majority of inhabitants are ethnically Czech; national minorities include Slovaks, Germans, Vietnamese, Poles, Ukrainians, and Russians among others. The official language is Czech. Since 2004, the Czech Republic has been a member of the European Union (EU). The Czech Republic is also a member of the OECD, WTO, WIPO, NATO, and many other international organizations.
