G Scott Walters

(The following information was supplied by the firm)

Working in both the firm’s Atlanta and Metro Washington, D.C. offices, Scott Walters represents construction-industry clients in federal government construction contracting issues, claims and disputes, regulatory compliance, litigation and alternative dispute resolution, contract drafting and negotiations, and general business and corporate matters. He litigates and advises in construction disputes in state and federal courts, at boards of contract appeals, and in private arbitration.

The knowledge he gained from his construction industry and engineering background helps Scott in drafting complex construction documents for heavy industrial, general commercial construction, and environmental remediation projects throughout the country. Scott particularly enjoys working on federal and state government contracting ventures that result in the creation of essential public works and infrastructure elements and edifices that serve the public good, such as military installations, roads, bridges, and civic buildings. He finds each case unique and interesting and appreciates the opportunity to push himself to make the best use of his legal skills in these often challenging and complex matters.

With a client base primarily comprising general contractors and trade subcontractors, Scott advocates for companies and individuals in matters involving differing site conditions, project changes (actual and constructive), project delays and disruptions, defective plans and specifications, construction defects, non-payment, regulatory compliance, and business matters. Always keeping an eye on cost containment, he strives to help identify potentially contentious situations as early as possible in the construction process and guides client in promptly resolving these issues so they can focus on building and completing their projects.

Scott previously served as assistant general counsel to an Atlanta-area industrial and environmental remediation contractor and worked in a private practice centered on construction, real estate development, and land use issues. Prior to law school, Scott was a project engineer, project manager, and owner’s representative on commercial construction and environmental remediation projects. His experience in the industry is augmented by a civil engineering degree from The Georgia Institute of Technology.

As an active participant in construction industry trade organizations for many years, Scott has contributed a great deal of his time and legal skills to numerous groups, including the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America, Georgia Highway Contractors Association, Georgia Asphalt Pavement Association, Georgie Concrete Contractors Association, the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Georgia, Inc., and the National Association of Surety Bond Producers.
