Starting March 1, 2024, new types of trademarks will be able to be registered in Uruguay, expanding the possibilities of more precisely distinguishing brands in our market.
According to the provisions of Resolution No. 18/2023 of the National Directorate of Intellectual Property (DNPI), the new types of registrable trademarks are:
to. Position mark: it is characterized by the particular location that the sign occupies on a specific product.
b. Pattern: is composed of a set of elements that are repeated sequentially.
c. Of movement: it is one that expresses a movement or exhibits a change in position of the constituent elements of the sign.
d. Multimedia: is that which is made up of combinations of image and sound, or includes them.
