“Ports: A necessity for the energy transition with hydrogen”

Back to All Thought Leadership

In the past Government, the Hydrogen Roadmap in Colombia was issued by the Ministry of Mines and Energy. This document seeks to contribute to the development and implementation of low-emission hydrogen in Colombia. The foregoing, in line with the objectives established in the 2015 Paris Agreement, where one of the most important is the reduction of emissions.

Regarding Hydrogen, it is important to mention that, as established in the Roadmap, it is an extremely important element in the global processes of energy transition. The foregoing to the extent that it does not generate greenhouse gas emissions and polluting emissions are almost nil. Two of the most important characteristics of hydrogen for the energy transition are related to the replacement of fossil fuels and raw materials, the acceleration of non-conventional sources of renewable energy, among others.

To the extent that hydrogen can be transported by ship in different ways, there will be certain existing ports that must adapt their infrastructure, or failing that, new investments must be made to build adequate infrastructure that allows its proper transfer.
