Attorney Named to North Carolina Lawyers Weekly “Leaders in the Law” List

Back to All Thought Leadership

Patricia A. Markus, JD, CIPP/US, a partner with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP’s Raleigh office, has been named a “Leader in the Law” by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, a publication that covers legal news in the Carolinas.

Honorees were selected because of their contributions to the practice of law in North Carolina, significant achievements through the practice of law, leadership in improving the justice system, acting as role models and mentors, and making essential contributions to North Carolina’s legal community and/or the community at large, the publication said.

Markus is the current president of the American Health Law Association (AHLA) and a member of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM). She represents health care providers, health technology companies, post-acute care facilities, and behavioral health and substance use disorder facilities across the country on wide-ranging regulatory compliance, reimbursement, licensure, and operational matters, with a particular emphasis on issues surrounding health information privacy, security, and technology.

The AHLA is the nation’s largest nonpartisan 501(c)(3) educational organization that is committed to legal issues involving the healthcare field — Markus began serving her one-year term as its president in July 2023.

The NCIOM was founded in 1983 by the North Carolina General Assembly to serve as a source of non-partisan information and analysis to promote effective health policies focused on improving the health and well-being of all North Carolinians.
