BLP is pleased to announce the incorporation of Rodrigo Cubero, renowned lawyer and economist, as Senior Counsel.
Rodrigo has a PhD in Economics from the University of Oxford, as well as degrees in law and business. He was President of the Central Bank of Costa Rica (BCCR) during the period 2018-2022. He served in senior positions at the International Monetary Fund for nearly 13 years, including as Deputy Division Chief at the IMF Institute for Capacity Development, from which he directed the IMF’s training programs for central banks and finance ministries in Latin America and the Caribbean, and taught IMF courses on economic and financial issues.
As Deputy Personnel Manager in the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department, he assisted in strategic decisions on human resources and management policies for the department.
He also served as Deputy Division Chief in the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department, was chief of mission for the Maldives and Bangladesh, and was a member of the Singapore, Malaysia, and New Zealand teams. He also served as Senior Economist in the IMF’s Western Hemisphere Department as a member of the team for Costa Rica and El Salvador. Prior to that, he was a professor of economics at Oxford University and a lawyer and tax manager for KPMG Costa Rica.
The rapid growth and constant evolution of the financial sector in Central America, as well as the increasing integration of the region into the global economy, make it increasingly necessary to combine economic and financial perspectives in the provision of advisory services by legal firms.
“Since its inception, BLP has stood out for strategically supporting its clients so that they achieve their business goals. Today more than ever, that mission requires an understanding of the environment that goes beyond purely legal and industry issues. Economic trends and the transformation of financial businesses and their regulation make the incorporation of a professional of this caliber to the firm even more relevant. It is a real privilege to have him on the team”, said Luis Castro, co-founding partner of BLP.
Regarding his incorporation into BLP, Rodrigo Cubero commented:
“It is an honor for me to join the BLP team, the leading law firm in Central America, and to be able to contribute to its strategy of regional growth and expansion in the areas of business, banking and finance, and economics.”
