Carey appoints two new counsels

Lawyers Valentina Kuscevic and Tomás Varela were elected counsels at Carey, the largest law firm in Chile. With these promotions, the firm, with more than 270 professionals in its legal area, 44 partners, 2 senior counsels, 5 counsels and 3 directors, strengthens its practices of labor and corporate immigration, and real estate law.

Following 30 years of experience in corporate immigration, in 2023, Carey Visas added to its services the processing of nonimmigrant visas available under the Free Trade Agreement between Chile and the United States for Chileans who wish to reside and/or work temporarily in the United States.

This year, Carey was also part of the organizing committee of the Real Estate Law conference of the International Bar Association (IBA) in Santiago, an event that brought together almost 100 lawyers from different parts of the world, specialized in this matter.

Valentina is part of Carey’s Labor group and co-heads Carey Visas. She studied law at the Universidad Católica de Chile and holds a Degree in Labor and Social Security Law from the same university. She also holds a Master in Labor and Social Security from Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez. She is an international associate of the American Immigration Lawyer Association. With more than 12 years of experience, her practice is specialized in labor and corporate immigration matters for national and multinational companies, including labor aspects related to M&A processes, with a special focus on Global Mobility, expatriation and labor issues associated to cross-border business restructuring operations.

Tomás is part of Carey’s Real Estate group. He received his law degree from Universidad de Los Andes and holds a degree in Real Estate Law from the same university. He also holds an LL.M. from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Previously, he worked as a foreign associate at the law firm, Bilzin Sumberg, in the United States. With more than 13 years of experience, he specializes mainly in advising domestic and foreign clients on the development of real estate projects, including land use and building permits matters, title reviews, sale-purchase agreements, leases, and other civil practice matters.
