European Women on Boards Directive and Implications for Belgium

Back to All Thought Leadership

On 12 January 2023, Liedekerke hosted the Women on Board event “European Women on Boards Directive and Implications for Belgium”, which aims to introduce a gender balance target for all qualifying listed companies so that at least 40% of all non-executive director positions or 33% of all director positions are occupied by the underrepresented gender. The event’s objective was to examine how the directive impacts the Belgian boards, and provide the WoB members with everything they need to know about the directive.

The speakers enthralled the audience of over +80 people with Thierry Geerts, Country Manager at Google, delivering a keynote Speech on “The untapped potential of diversity in Belgium”, Philippe Lambrecht, President Legal affairs Committee Business Europe providing a “Business perspective on Boosting diversity and gender balance” and Fleur Vanswijgenhoven, Associate at Liedekerke offering a “A Belgian legal perspective on the Women On Boards Directive”.

Gaëlle Helsmoortel, Chairperson Women on Board, was interviewed by our Corporate & M&A partner Christel Van den Eynden and shared with the audience some preliminary results of the survey realised with Profacts & Guberna on the European Women on Boards Directive and Implications for Belgium. The final Q&A session was led by Corporate partner and ULB professor Valérie Simonart and was followed by a lively networking reception.

Thank you to all the exceptional speakers for their insightful and thought-provoking presentations and to Women on Board for enabling us to host an extremely successful networking event!
