Why Uruguay?

Back to All Thought Leadership

Over the last few years, Uruguay attracted a significant number of immigrants, especially from the neighboring countries (Argentina and Brazil). Uruguay´s tradition of democracy and stability, coupled with a sound managemenet of the pandemic may explain the current trends. Such characteristics were boosted by the several incentives granted by the current Administration to promote the legal and tax residence in Uruguay

A survey recently published, sheds some light on the views those immigrants maintain.

About 60% of the interviewees considered the quality of life to be the most outstanding attribute of Uruguay. Other main factors highlighted by the interviewees included: the people and their idiosyncrasy, political and social stability, job opportunities, access to education and health, and climate.  Most of the surveyed (79%) considered Uruguay as a highly recommended country to settle in.

According to the survey, social mobility, democracy and civil liberties, low corruption, respect of the rule of law, and reasonable income distribution, are also among the favorable conditions which immigrants especially value.

In line with the above survey, recent international (reputed) rankings seem to single out Uruguay as the most egalitarian country in Latin America, having drastically reduced its poverty levels in the last fifteen years.
